The Welt

The Details of Fully-Fashioned Stockings
Here you can see the classic Cuban Heel FF stocking.  Notice the tiny dots along the calf, this is where stitches are dropped to help form the shape of the calf.  Notice the keyhole too, this as I explained is literally where the sewing machine foot is removed. and notice the multiple, metal garter or suspender clasps (suspender is what they call garters in Europe). First, that name… The term “fully-fashioned” comes from the fact that these most rare and magical of all hosiery are in fact, fully fashioned by hand.  Each stocking is knitted flat in a massive machine, called a Reading machine, of which there are only about 6 left in the world.  they take up huge factory spaces and knit what most people call “seamed stockings” one...
